Lola Juris is a Holocaust survivor who uses art to find healing and hope in the world. After fleeing Nazi Germany at the age of 9, she found her way in life through art, studying at Parsons School of Design and Syracuse University. Describing her creative process, Juris says, “During the time that I’m painting, I am the subject and the object; it is important for me to enjoy that connection with my work. It’s a meditative state, which I find very healing. My paintings never depict rage, destruction, or fear, as these feelings would be powerful negatives to imagine during my many hours of painting time.” She is a member of the Palomar Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Vista, California.
