Daniel McKanan is the first Ralph Waldo Emerson Unitarian Universalist Association Senior Lecturer in Divinity at Harvard Divinity School. His book, Prophetic Encounters, a history of religion and the left in the United States, will be published by Beacon Press in 2010.

He and his family worship at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Medford, Massachusetts.
